Backing up data is a vital part of keeping electronic documents. Sacramento Country Day School supplied iPads are connected to the school's AppleID and as such they need to be backed up to a computer running iTunes.
The Technology Department has setup three MacMini computers that are ready to have student iPads connected. There is one designated for each grade level. They are in the following locations:
- 6th Grade - Mr. Bolman's Room (Room 13)
- 7th Grade - Ms. Monahan's Room (Room 14)
- 8th Grade - Mr. Kuipers's Room (Room 24)
Because there is monitoring software installed on all school iPads, the first SYNC with the computer will require a password to encrypt the backup. All students are instructed to use the following password "scds" (case sensitive).
The process backs up the entire iPad, including files created in Pages, photos saved, and email connections.
Students are also advised to save files to Google Drive.
Updates to Apps are handled through the Sync stations for each grade. Periodically the Technology Department will update apps on the Sync Station and then when a student docks with the station the new/updated apps are installed.
Major updates to the OS (operating system) called iOS should not be performed until the student body is informed.A major update is one that changes a full number (ex. iOS 8.0.5 to iOS 9.0). The school usually waits until the first revision; instead of jumping on iOS 9 we will wait until iOS 9.0.2.
Mid level updates (i.e. 9.1.2 to 9.2) are allowed to do when they are available.
