At SCDS we strive to prepare students for the world ahead. Starting in the elementary grades, teachers and staff work with the students to think about the digital world around them. We work on basic skills such as typing, word processing, multimedia presentation, and Internet browsing, and develop an understanding about the four C’s: Collaboration: Students are able to work effectively with diverse groups and exercise flexibility in making compromises to achieve common goals. Creativity: Students are able to generate and improve on original ideas and also work creatively with others. Communication: Students are able to communicate effectively across multiple media and for various purposes. Critical thinking: Students are able to analyze, evaluate, and understand complex systems and apply strategies to solve problems.
Our elementary school program integrates both Apple iPad and Google Chromebook devices into the classroom environment. In middle school, each student is supplied with an Apple iPad for daily and evening use. The iPad is managed by the school and comes included with apps necessary for the classroom. In high school, students are provided Apple MacBook Air laptops with full administrative rights and pre-loaded with school software, including the Adobe Creative Suite and the Microsoft Office Suite.
The use of the equipment across the grades give each student a different experience adding over time responsibility, complexity, and understanding.
